Muncul Petisi Amnesty International di Inggris Untuk Bebaskan Ahok

Situs Amnesty International di Inggris mengunggah petisi yang meminta agar Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) dibebaskan. Petisi tersebut dibuat oleh salah seorang staf Amnesty International cabang Inggris, Francesca Pateman.

"Dia (Ahok) adalah orang keempat di Indonesia yang dihukum atas pasal penodaan di 2017. Amnesty International yakin bahwa pasal ini telah dipakai berulang kali dan mencoba menahan kebebasan berekspresi dan beragama," 

Bentuk dukungan dari petisi tersebut adalah melalui SMS dengan tarif yang disesuaikan dengan operator penyedia layanan. Para pendukung petisi pun harus berusia di atas 14 tahun.

"Antara 2005 dan 2014, Amnesty International mencatat sedikitnya 106 orang yang telah disidangkan dan dihukum atas pasal penodaan/penghujatan di Indonesia," imbuh Francesca.

Pada situs tersebut tak dicantumkan sudah ada berapa orang yang mendukung petisi tersebut. Para pendukung petisi nantinya juga akan diajak berdiskusi melalui SMS.

"Tolong berikan suara Anda untuk petisi penting kami dan meminta otoritas Indonesia segera dan tanpa syarat membebaskan Ahok," ungkap Francesca.

"On 9 May, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, was convicted of blasphemy. He was immediately sentenced to two years in prison. This is despite evidence that his words had been twisted for political purposes.

Ahok, who is a Christian, was accused of ‘insulting Islam’ in a video he posted to announce that he would run again for election as governor of Jakarta this year.

He is the fourth person in Indonesia to be convicted under blasphemy laws in 2017. Amnesty International believes these laws have been repeatedly used in attempts to stifle freedom of expression and religion. Between 2005 and 2014 Amnesty International has recorded at least 106 individuals who have been prosecuted and convicted under Indonesia’s blasphemy laws.

Please add your voice to our urgent petition and demand that the Indonesian Authorities immediately and unconditionally release Ahok.
